LNMC 9-1-35.2 sets corner sight-distance rules limiting fences to 18 inches within visibility triangles, allows minor architectural features above the height limit, and specifies how fence height and multiple fences are measured.
Under LNMC 9-1-35.2(c)(6), fences may not exceed 18 inches within the triangular corner-cutback area formed between two points 25 feet from the intersection of ultimate street right-of-way lines, and within five feet of a driveway or alley, to preserve motorist sight distances. Architectural features such as pilasters and finials may extend six inches above the maximum height if they make up no more than ten percent of the fence's length. Height is measured from finish grade at the base to the highest point; fences less than 30 inches apart are treated as one structure. Along scenic highways, fences may not be placed below the top of 2:1-or-steeper slopes over ten feet high.
Fences blocking required sight triangles or exceeding measured height limits are enforced by Community Development and may require removal or lowering.
