Tamarac, FL Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Under the Land Development Code, Tamarac splits fence height by property line. Along the rear line, residential fences and walls max out at six feet, or eight feet if that line abuts nonresidential-zoned property. Along the side property line, or elsewhere in the required side yard between the front setback and the rear line, the ceiling is six feet for both fences and walls. Fences and walls cannot extend past the front line of the house, and none is allowed within the required front street setback, though a lot with two street frontages may fence the secondary street line.

Multi-family developments may install decorative fences or walls up to six feet inside the front setback, but they cannot be chain link, PVC, or wood. Hedges are separately capped at ten feet along front, side, and rear lines, though solid palm buffers maintained under §10-4.4 landscaping standards are exempt from that limit. Height is always measured from the finished grade at the point of installation. At every roadway intersection, fences, walls, or hedges cannot obstruct traffic visibility as determined by the City Engineer under the sight-distance standard at §10-4.4(D)(6). The Community Development Director may allow up to two extra feet for a decorative rail atop a wall for documented safety or security reasons.
