Tamarac, FL Fence Regulations: Material Restrictions (2026)

The Land Development Code sets uniform material rules for every fence or wall in Tamarac. No electrified fences are permitted anywhere in the city. Bare metal chain link is barred unless it serves as temporary or construction fencing; any chain link that is installed must be vinyl coated. Bamboo, or any material similar in appearance to it, is not permitted as fencing. Outside those bans, the code lists the materials a fence or wall may use, alone or combined: wood, rock, stone, solid masonry with stucco and paint, pierced masonry, ornamental metal, vinyl-coated chain link, or PVC.

Combining more than one material on a single fence or wall requires the Community Development Director's approval as a decorative treatment. In the city's industrial districts, barbed-wire fencing is prohibited outright, even though those same districts otherwise allow taller, security-focused fencing, including up to eight feet for utility and industrial sites in the I-1, I-2, BP, PF, and SU zoning districts. Every fence or wall, regardless of material, must still be permitted through the building department and kept in a condition that ensures safety and a proper aesthetic appearance, including painting, repair, or pruning as needed.
