Moore, OK Fence Regulations: Fence Permit Requirements (2026)

Section 5-269 makes it unlawful for a fence contractor or contractor's employee to construct, erect, install, alter or locate any fence within the city without first obtaining a permit from the building department and paying the required fee. The code defines a covered fence broadly in § 5-262 as any fence permanently attached to the ground, including chainlink, redwood, masonry and wood fences, but it expressly excludes fences on agricultural-zoned property from the definition, which is why § 5-269 also states plainly that no permit is required in agricultural zones.

An employee of a licensed fence contractor does not need a separate permit as long as the contractor has already obtained one for that job, but the contractor itself must be licensed under § 5-263 before applying, a process that requires disclosing years of experience, employment history, any felony convictions and three references. The permit application under § 5-270 must identify the applicant, the lot where the fence will go, and who is actually erecting it. Once issued, a fence erection permit is only good for 12 months; under § 5-271, if the work is not finished within that year the permit becomes null and void and a new one must be sought.

The Appendix 2 fee schedule lists the fence erection permit fee under item 5-272 at $25.00, due at the time of submittal, separate from the $50.00 annual fence contractor's license fee. The building official can revoke a fence permit under § 5-273 for any violation of the city's fence ordinances and inspects fences under § 5-274 as needed.
