Bostonia is unincorporated San Diego County, and ALL consumer fireworks are illegal here. California's State Fireworks Law bans 'dangerous fireworks,' and the County separately prohibits possessing, selling, storing, using or discharging any fireworks in the unincorporated area without a permit. No 'safe and sane' exception applies.
Because Bostonia has no city government, San Diego County's rules govern. County Code Chapter 32 (Title 3, Division 2) regulates fireworks for the unincorporated area on top of the County Fire Code and 19 CCR Chapter 6. Statewide, Health & Safety Code section 12505 defines 'dangerous fireworks' (firecrackers, skyrockets, Roman candles, bottle rockets, and more), and section 12500 establishes the 'State Fireworks Law.' Unlike some incorporated cities, unincorporated San Diego County allows NO consumer fireworks — not even sparklers marketed as 'safe and sane.' Only licensed public displays with a permit are lawful.
Possession or use of illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor; Health & Safety Code section 12700 sets fines commonly $1,000-$2,000 for under 25 pounds, plus County administrative penalties and liability for any fire started.
