Inglewood, CA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Ordinance 25-05, adopted February 18, 2025, repealed Inglewood's former seasonal "safe and sane" fireworks sales window (former Secs. 7 under Ords. 00-20 and 17-08) and replaced it with an outright citywide ban on both selling and using or discharging fireworks, using the state definitions in Health and Safety Code Sections 12500 through 12534. The only path around the ban runs through the Fire Chief: a person will not be prosecuted if they use "exempt fireworks" under a Fire Chief permit, use fireworks at a City-sponsored event under a Fire Chief permit, or discharge at an arena, stadium, or other City-approved location inside the Hollywood Park Specific Plan Zone, Commercial-Recreation Zone, or Sports and Entertainment Zone under a Fire Chief permit, which is how licensed pyrotechnic displays at SoFi Stadium and the Kia Forum stay lawful.

The Fire Chief can also adopt rules for granting those permits and must verify the applicant holds a valid State Fire Marshal license. Enforcement is split: Sec. 6-4 lets the City Attorney prosecute any Fire Code violation as a misdemeanor or infraction under the general penalty at Sec. 1-18, and Sec. 4, but that administrative-fine route is capped to people caught possessing twenty-five pounds or less of Dangerous Fireworks under Health and Safety Code Section 12557; larger seizures go through State Fire Marshal cost-recovery for transport and disposal instead of a City fine.
