Lower Merion, PA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 109-16 of Chapter 109, Parks and Playgrounds, groups fireworks with two other park hazards: the discharge of a firearm or bow, and the promiscuous use of javelins, discuses or similar dangerous athletic equipment. The same sentence structure that lets the Board of Commissioners authorize firearm or bow discharge in a park under specific circumstances draws no equivalent exception for fireworks: the section flatly states that the use of firecrackers, fireworks or rockets in a park is prohibited, full stop. That ban covers every location meeting the Chapter 109 definition of a park, from neighborhood playgrounds to Flat Rock Park along the Schuylkill River, and it applies regardless of the day or holiday, so it reaches Fourth of July and New Year's celebrations on Township park land the same as any other day.

Outside park boundaries, the Township treats fireworks as a permitted activity rather than a flat ban: the Township's Schedule of Fees, cross-referenced to Chapter 78, Fire Prevention, lists a fireworks permit fee of $150 for each occurrence, alongside related fire permits such as an $80 annual burn permit, a $40 semiannual burn permit and a $50 bonfire permit. That fee entry confirms a Township-administered fireworks permit exists, though the fee table itself does not restate the underlying approval standard, which is set by the fire code chapter Lower Merion has adopted; the fee, and the flat park ban in § 109-16, are the only fireworks-specific provisions the Township has published in its own words.
