All fireworks β including Safe & Sane β are banned in Thousand Oaks. Possession or use can result in a fine up to $1,000 and/or up to one year in jail. All of Ventura County except Fillmore bans consumer fireworks.
All fireworks, including "safe and sane" varieties, are completely banned in Thousand Oaks under city ordinance. This includes sparklers, fountains, snakes, and poppers that are legal in some other California cities. The ban applies year-round, not just around July 4th. Ventura County Fire Department and Thousand Oaks Police Department jointly enforce the fireworks ban. The city hosts an official July 4th celebration at the Civic Arts Plaza as an alternative.
Possession of fireworks: $1,000 fine. Use/discharge of fireworks: $1,000 fine plus potential misdemeanor charges. Starting a fire with fireworks: criminal charges including arson, plus civil liability for all suppression and damage costs. Parents are liable for minors' fireworks violations. Confiscated fireworks are destroyed.
