Outdoor burning rules in Arlington Heights, IL β also called the burn ban, open burning, or fire restriction ordinance β set when you can burn yard waste, debris, or run a recreational fire.
Arlington Heights prohibits open burning within village limits. Outdoor fires are restricted to approved recreational fire devices such as portable fire pits and charcoal grills. Open burning of leaves, yard waste, and trash is banned year-round.
The Village of Arlington Heights follows Cook County and Illinois EPA regulations prohibiting open burning of leaves, brush, yard waste, construction debris, and household trash. Recreational fires in approved portable fire pits or chimineas are permitted provided they burn only clean seasoned wood, are attended at all times, and are positioned at least 15 feet from structures. Charcoal and gas grills are allowed for cooking. Burning of landscape waste is prohibited under Illinois law (415 ILCS 5/9). The Arlington Heights Fire Department enforces outdoor burning restrictions and responds to complaints. Contact the Fire Prevention Bureau at (847) 368-5250.
Violations of the open burning ban may result in fines and extinguishment orders from the Fire Department. Repeat violations may result in fines up to $750 per offense under village ordinance.
