Section 150.222(A) allows a home occupation's clientele to come to the property, but § 150.222(C)(6) puts a ceiling on how much of that traffic the surrounding street can absorb: no traffic shall be generated in greater volume than normally expected in a residential neighborhood. The code does not attach a trip-count number to that standard, so the Delaware-Muncie Metropolitan Board of Zoning Appeals judges it case by case when it reviews the special-use application required for any home occupation under §§ 150.215 and 150.216, and a business whose client visits noticeably change the character of the street can be denied or later revoked.

The same subsection addresses the parking that traffic brings: any parking the home occupation generates must be met off the street, not in the required front yard, and has to follow the general off-street parking standards of § 150.211, the same table used for every other land use in the zoning code. Because a home occupation must also remain incidental and subordinate to the dwelling's residential use under § 150.222(C)(2), and cannot occupy an accessory building under § 150.222(C)(3), the traffic and parking condition works together with those limits to keep a home-based business from functioning like a storefront.

An operation that draws commercial-scale traffic, or that pushes client parking onto the street or into the front yard, is out of compliance with § 150.222(C)(6) even if every other home-occupation condition is met. A violation is enforced under the citywide general penalty of Muncie City Code § 10.99, a fine of not more than $2,500.00 for each offense.
