Tamarac, FL Landscaping Rules: Rainwater Harvesting (2026)

Tamarac Code § 22-303 opens by stating its year-round permanent landscape irrigation measures apply to all users unless otherwise specified, then lists nine numbered requirements and exceptions. Item (6) of that section provides that any plant material may be watered using low volume irrigation, micro-irrigation, low volume hand watering methods, rain barrels, cisterns, or other similar rain-harvesting devices without regard to the listed watering days or times. That exemption sits alongside the rest of Section 22-303's scheme: everyone else must generally follow the odd/even address watering-day split and the 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily irrigation ban, but a resident using a rain barrel or cistern to hand-water plants is free of both restrictions.

The exemption is defined by method, not property type, so it applies equally to single-family yards, common areas and commercial landscaping as long as the actual watering device used is a rain barrel, cistern or comparable low volume, micro-irrigation or hand-watering technique. Section 22-304 separately requires any automatic irrigation system a user installs to include rain-sensor or moisture-shutoff technology under state law, but that requirement targets automatic systems, not the rain-harvesting devices exempted by Section 22-303(6).
