Weston, FL Landscaping Rules: Water Restrictions (2026)

Section 123.21 implements the South Florida Water Management District's year-round conservation measures under Chapter 40E-24, F.A.C., and applies to every user irrigating from any water resource within the City, though athletic play areas, agricultural operations, and irrigation using reclaimed water or saltwater are excluded (§ 123.21(B)(1)). Under § 123.21(C)(1), irrigation of any kind is prohibited daily between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Existing landscaping then follows an address-based schedule: even-numbered addresses and rights-of-way without an address may irrigate only on Thursdays and/or Sundays, while odd-numbered addresses are limited to Wednesdays and/or Saturdays (§ 123.21(C)(2)(a)-(b)).

Newly installed landscaping gets a 90-day grace period: it may be watered once on the day of installation regardless of the schedule, then on six days a week for its first 30 days, and on four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday) for days 31 through 90 (§ 123.21(C)(3)). Hand watering, low-volume, micro-irrigation, and rain-barrel or cistern watering are exempt from the day and time restrictions altogether (§ 123.21(C)(6)), and a maintenance test of an irrigation system is allowed once a week for up to ten minutes per zone with an attendant present (§ 123.21(C)(4)).

If the South Florida Water Management District declares a more restrictive Water Shortage or Water Shortage Emergency, that declaration overrides Weston's schedule for its duration (§ 123.21(B)(2)). A user facing hardship may apply to the City Manager for a variance, which must be decided within 20 days, though no zone may ever be watered more than twice a week absent soil moisture sensors or weather-based controllers (§ 123.21(E)).
