Hoboken, NJ Noise from Specific Sources: Delivery Truck Noise (2026)

Section 133-10D targets vehicle-mounted amplified sound generally: personal or commercial music amplification or reproduction equipment cannot be plainly audible beyond 50 feet between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and folds in a specific rule for food vending: ice cream and other food vending trucks in residential neighborhoods may not play jingles while stationary, and may only play a jingle while the vehicle is moving. Section 133-10E then addresses the other common delivery and truck-noise complaint: idling. Commercial vehicles, which covers delivery trucks, box trucks and similar vehicles, are barred from idling for more than three minutes in any residential district, with no carve-out for loading or waiting.

Section 133-10F separately bars nonemergency horn use except as a warning against imminent danger, a rule that regularly comes up alongside idling and jingle complaints against delivery and vending operators. All three provisions sit in the same Motor Vehicles section of the chapter and are enforced by Hoboken's Noise Control Investigators, the Police Department, Zoning Officer, Health Officer, Environmental Health Specialist and Public Health Nuisance Investigator among them, per § 133-2.
