Kenner, LA Noise from Specific Sources: Delivery Truck Noise (2026)

Kenner's unnecessary-noise ordinance names loading and unloading as one of its enumerated violations. Section 7-166(a) bans 'any loud, unnecessary or unusual noise... within the limits of the city,' and § 7-166(b)(9) applies that ban directly to commercial activity: the creation of a loud or excessive noise in connection with loading or unloading any vehicle or the opening and destruction of bales, boxes, crates and containers is declared a violation. The list in § 7-166(b) is expressly non-exclusive, so a delivery truck idling with a noisy lift gate, pallet jacks banging against a dock, or crates being broken down loudly outside a Williams Boulevard strip center or a Rivertown restaurant can be cited under this clause even though the section does not fix specific hours for deliveries.

Unlike the construction-noise clause in § 7-166(b)(10), which sets a 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. window, the loading-and-unloading clause has no separate time restriction; it turns on whether the noise created is loud or excessive in the circumstances. Enforcement falls to the Kenner Police Department, which can respond to a neighbor or business complaint and issue a citation under this section. Because § 7-166 carries no fine of its own, the general Chapter 7 penalty in § 7-3 applies: up to a $500 fine, up to sixty days in jail, or both, with each day of a continuing violation charged separately.
