Kenner, LA Noise Ordinances: Amplified Music & Outdoor Sound (2026)

Kenner Code of Ordinances Sec. 7-166(b)(17)b makes it unlawful to operate any source of musical sound between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. anywhere in the City of Kenner, and between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. specifically on property owned by the City of Kenner unless a public gathering permit has been issued, in a manner that creates a sound level exceeding the maximum sound level, or Lmax, set for the receiving land use. The table sets 60 dBA for single-family residential or public property, 55 dBA for the interior of two-family or multiple-family dwellings measured intra-dwelling, 65 dBA for commercial and business areas, and 85 dBA for industrial areas.

Proof of a violation is made with a properly calibrated Type 2 or better sound level meter using ANSI-conforming testing procedures, and readings are taken at or beyond the closest property line separating the noise source from the nearest adjacent property; for multi-family buildings, the reading is taken inside the adjacent unit instead. Where a noise source touches more than one land-use category, the more restrictive limit controls. The section, most recently amended by Ord. No. 11,836 in February 2021, also makes any owner, lessor, manager, or employee who authorizes or permits the violation liable, not just the person operating the equipment.
