Kenner, LA Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Kenner Code of Ordinances Sec. 7-166(b)(10) lists the erection, including excavating, demolition, alteration, or repair of any building outside the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays among the acts declared to be loud, disturbing, and unnecessary noise in violation of the city's general noise section. The only way around the weekday window is urgent necessity in the interest of public health and safety, which requires a permit from the building inspector; that emergency permit may be granted for a period of not more than three days at a time and may be renewed in additional three-day increments for as long as the emergency continues.

The building inspector may also authorize work between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. more broadly if satisfied that public health and safety will not be impaired and that loss or inconvenience would otherwise result to an interested party, with the application made either when the work permit is issued or during the progress of the job. On weekends, meaning Saturdays and Sundays, and on Louisiana state holidays, the window tightens further: no construction may start before 8:00 a.m. and none may continue after 9:00 p.m.

The provision applies to general contractors, subcontractors, and property owners doing their own work alike, since it regulates the activity rather than naming a specific class of person.
