Yorba Linda, CA Noise Ordinances: Amplified Music & Outdoor Sound (2026)

Yorba Linda treats audible amplified sound as a permit activity rather than a flat decibel limit. Section 8.32.150 makes it unlawful to operate a loudspeaker, public address system or sound amplification system, or play a musical instrument, anywhere in the City if it can be heard outside any building, unless the City Manager first approves a permit, the equipment is operated from a motor vehicle in accordance with Section 10.04.140, or it is used in a parade that already holds its own permit. Applications go to the City Clerk at least three business days before the event under Section 8.32.160 and must identify the applicant, the equipment's wattage and maximum sound-throw distance, and the hours and days of proposed use.

Section 8.32.170 then fixes the operating window: the equipment cannot run between 11:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., except that Easter sunrise services may start at 6:00 a.m., and the sound cannot be cast so far that it disturbs a hospital, school, church, courtroom, residence or public assemblage, or carry content that is profane, indecent or likely to incite a riot. The City Manager must revoke a permit under Section 8.32.190 if the equipment is used contrary to any of these conditions. A violation of Chapter 8.32, including operating without a required permit or outside its terms, is a misdemeanor under Section 8.32.200, with each day of continuing violation a separate offense.
