LA County Code Section 12.08.440 restricts construction in unincorporated areas to weekdays 7 AMβ7 PM and Saturdays 8 AMβ5 PM. Construction is prohibited on Sundays and legal holidays. Equipment must have mufflers in good condition.
Section 12.08.440 prohibits construction activity between 7 PM and 7 AM on weekdays and between 5 PM and 8 AM on Saturdays in unincorporated LA County. All construction is banned on Sundays and federal holidays. Mobile equipment must have mufflers in proper working order. The code separately restricts powered equipment and hand tools used in residential zones. Chapter 12.12 provides overlapping restrictions with slightly different hours (8 PM to 6:30 AM). Emergency repairs to utilities and public infrastructure are exempt. Variance permits for extended hours may be granted by the Department of Public Works for critical projects. Violations are reported to LA County Environmental Health at (626) 430-5201.
Violations of Section 12.08.440 are misdemeanors under Section 12.08.590, punishable by fines up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail. Stop-work orders may be issued for repeated violations.
