Quiet hours in Lynwood, CA โ also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time โ define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
Lynwood sets nighttime quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. under Municipal Code Section 3-12. During these hours, radios, TVs, instruments and similar devices may not disturb neighboring residents in any residential zone.
Section 3-12.7 of the Lynwood Municipal Code makes it unlawful in any residential zone to operate a radio, musical instrument, phonograph, television or other sound-producing device between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. so as to disturb neighbors. Exceeding the ambient base level at the property line by more than five decibels is prima facie evidence of a violation. Nighttime ambient limits (10 p.m.-7 a.m.) are 60 dBA in R-1/R-2, 55 dBA in R-3, and 60 dBA in commercial zones. Section 3-12.6 separately bars any loud, unnecessary or unusual noise disturbing the peace at any hour.
Violations of Section 3-12 are misdemeanors under Section 1-5 of the code, or may be filed as infractions by the city prosecutor. Each violation is a separate offense. Noise is also declared a public nuisance abatable by injunction or lien
