Parker, CO Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

Section 7.04.010 of the Parker Municipal Code defines an abandoned vehicle. On private property, a vehicle is abandoned if it sits out of operating condition for more than 15 days, does not belong to a resident or guest, or is lost, stolen or unclaimed. In a public parking lot, a vehicle is abandoned once it has been parked longer than 24 consecutive hours, unless a posted Town sign sets a different limit. A vehicle in operating condition must display a valid safety inspection sticker where required and current license plates; anything dismantled, partially dismantled, discarded, junked or wrecked never qualifies as operating.

Section 7.04.020 makes it unlawful to abandon a vehicle anywhere in Town, to leave an inoperable vehicle on any street or highway, to overstay the 24-hour public-lot limit, to relocate a vehicle to dodge the Chapter, or as a property owner, tenant or lessee to allow an abandoned or inoperable vehicle to remain on the property. The Chief of Police can grant a temporary exception after a major weather event, pausing enforcement for at least 24 hours afterward. Covering a vehicle with a tarp or sheeting is not a defense under Section 7.04.060.

The Police Department investigates suspected violations under Section 7.04.030, may issue a summons or have the vehicle towed and impounded at the owner's expense, and each vehicle in violation counts as a separate offense under Section 7.04.050. Violators face a fine of up to $499 under Section 7.04.070.
