Redondo Beach addresses abandoned vehicles in two ways: on public streets, Title 3 Chapter 7 Article 13 authorizes removal after 72 hours of continuous parking; on private or public property, Title 4 Chapter 18 (RBMC 4-18.01 to 4-18.15) treats abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or inoperative vehicles as a public nuisance.
On streets, RBMC Article 13 makes it unlawful to leave a vehicle parked more than 72 hours and authorizes police to remove any vehicle left standing 72 or more consecutive hours. To reset the clock, the vehicle must move at least 100 feet. Separately, RBMC Title 4, Chapter 18 (sections 4-18.01 through 4-18.15) declares the accumulation of abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or inoperative vehicles on private or public property a public nuisance. The Building Officer administers abatement and may order removal after a 10-day notice mailed to the land owner and vehicle owner, who may request a hearing or deny responsibility in a sworn statement. Report suspected abandoned vehicles to the Police Communications Unit at (310) 379-2477.
A vehicle left over 72 hours on a street may be cited and towed (Article 13). On private property, an abandoned or inoperative vehicle is a nuisance abatable by the Building Officer after 10-day notice under RBMC 4-18.01 to 4-18.15.
