Redondo Beach Municipal Code (Title 3, Chapter 7) makes it unlawful to park in any space designated for a public electric vehicle charging station unless the vehicle is connected and actively charging. Green-curb short-term zones (RBMC 3-7.1205) provide additional brief-stay parking.
The Redondo Beach traffic code (Title 3, Chapter 7) provides that it is unlawful for any vehicle to park in a parking space designated for a public electric vehicle charging station if the vehicle is not using the charging station to charge. This mirrors California Vehicle Code section 22511, which restricts EV-charging-designated spaces to vehicles connected for charging and authorizes removal of non-charging vehicles. Separately, RBMC 3-7.1205 authorizes the city to establish green-curb short-term parking zones (about a 20-minute limit, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or as posted). EV drivers using city meters or structures remain subject to standard meter time limits; an EV plug-in does not exempt a vehicle from meter payment, posted time limits, or street-sweeping restrictions.
Parking in an EV-charging-designated space without actively charging is unlawful under the city traffic code and California Vehicle Code 22511, and the vehicle may be cited or removed.
