Commercial loading zones. The City Manager and/or their designee is hereby authorized to establish commercial loading zones with yellow-colored curbs and/or associated signage at such places as they determine that the adjacent land uses could generate a substantial volume of goods loading activity as part of their normally permitted business operations. ... No person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle ... between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on any day, except Sundays and legal holidays, in a yellow curb loading zone, except that commercial vehicles may stop or stand for the purpose of loading or unloading material goods, and then only for the time necessary therefor, but in no event for more than 20 minutes or a different time limit and/or number of days if posted with appropriate signage and/or markings.

Full Breakdown

1205(b). 1207 adds operating rules across zone colors: loading permission covers only commercial deliveries and parcel or postage pickup and delivery, materials loading by commercial vehicles is capped at 20 minutes unless a sign says otherwise, and passenger loading, including personal baggage, is capped at five minutes unless posted differently, with the section warning against abuse of the loading privileges granted. 1205(f)(1) carry the same five-minute default. 1205(g)(1).

Violations & Fines

Exceeding the posted or default time limit in a loading zone, using a yellow-curb commercial zone for a noncommercial purpose, or loading passengers for more than five minutes in a white-curb zone violates Sections 3-7.1205 and 3-7.1207; abusing the loading privilege, such as parking without actively loading, is separately called out as enforceable misuse under Section 3-7.1207(d).

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can a delivery truck park in a yellow loading zone?
Up to 20 minutes between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on any day except Sundays and legal holidays, under Section 3-7.1205(f)(2), unless a posted sign at that specific zone sets a different time limit or different days of coverage.
What is the time limit for dropping off a passenger at a white curb?
Five minutes. Section 3-7.1207(c) limits passenger loading and unloading, including personal baggage, to the time necessary and in no event more than five minutes, unless signage at that location posts a different limit.
Can I use a commercial loading zone just to park while I shop?
No. Section 3-7.1207(d) treats that as abuse of the loading privilege, and the zone is reserved for actual commercial deliveries and parcel or postage pickup and delivery under Section 3-7.1207(a), not general parking convenience.
