Arvada, CO Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 54-173 of the Arvada City Code defines a "large vehicle" as any vehicle that is 8 feet or more in width, 25 feet or more in length, has a combined trailer length exceeding 30 feet, carries a gross vehicle weight over 10,000 pounds or a gross vehicle weight rating over 14,500 pounds (excluding major recreational vehicles), or is a truck tractor, semitrailer, or dump truck regardless of size. Pick-up trucks with standard beds modified to dump loads are excluded, and boats, motor homes, and travel trailers are excluded from the "large vehicle" definition entirely because those fall under the separate major-recreational-vehicle rule in § 54-174.

City council found in adopting the section that parking large vehicles in residential districts harms the general and economic welfare of citizens, and treats the restriction as regulation of neighborhood aesthetics. S. Title 42 and to areas zoned residential under the Land Development Code. The only exceptions are loading, unloading, making a delivery, or actively servicing a property located within 200 feet of where the vehicle sits. The Director of the Community Development Department may issue a time-limited permit allowing large-vehicle parking in a residential district when reasonably necessary for a construction project, for a fee set in the department's administrative fee schedule. The prohibition does not apply on any street or highway designated as a state highway within Arvada.
