Middleton, WI Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

06(9)(d) of the City of Middleton Municipal Code, part of the Off-Street Parking and Traffic Circulation chapter's Limitations on Uses provisions, governs vehicle parking in residential districts. Subsection 2 allows a maximum of one commercial vehicle per dwelling unit parked outdoors on residential property, provided the vehicle is used by a resident, has a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less, and is less than 21 feet in length. Subsection 3 then draws a harder line for anything larger, barring any motor truck, truck trailer, trailer, semitrailer, or other vehicle or combination of vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds, with a single carve-out for recreational vehicles or motor homes parked in a driveway or other legal off-street space.

Subsection (9)(a) separately lists categories of heavy equipment that cannot be stored outdoors on residential property at all outside active construction, including bulldozers and backhoes, dump and stake-body trucks, cube vans, landscaping equipment like tractors and tree spades, semi-trailers and tractors, concession and catering trailers, and tow trucks or wreckers, with one narrow exception for a single light-duty tow truck under 12,000 pounds that is on the City of Middleton Police Department's active rotating call list. Any permitted commercial vehicle must also respect the general driveway rule that no vehicle may park within 5 feet of a street right-of-way line.
