Surprise, AZ Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Code § 54-113 defines a 'truck' for this parking article as a motor vehicle or commercial motor vehicle weighing 18,000 pounds or more, a combination of vehicles weighing more than 26,000 pounds, a box truck, or a semi-trailer cab, including a truck tractor or vehicle transporter. Section 54-114(a) makes it unlawful to park such a truck, or any trailer, on any city street except while actually loading or unloading, while services are being provided by the truck's occupant (not counting maintenance of the truck itself), for a period not exceeding one hour, or where the city has specifically permitted it.

Subsection (b) separately allows a recreational vehicle or utility trailer to be parked on a street for up to 72 hours, up to two times a month, provided it does not block a neighboring driveway, the adjacent street remains at least 20 feet wide for traffic, and no one sleeps, cooks, or otherwise lives in the vehicle while it is parked there. Subsection (c) bars parking a truck, RV, or trailer in a front, side, or rear yard any closer to the front street than the residence itself, unless it is fully hidden inside a garage or similar permanent structure built for that purpose.

Subsection (d) bars parking any truck, RV, or trailer within 30 feet of the curb return of an intersection. Subsection (e) requires anyone using a jack stand or similar support device on a parked truck, RV, or trailer to place a load-distributing pad of at least 36 square inches under each stand so the street surface is not damaged.
