Gilbert, AZ Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 62-69, adopted as Code 1984 § 12-1-5(D) and amended by Ordinance No. 2160 in May 2008, restricts heavy vehicle parking on residential streets rather than banning it from the town outright. The rule covers any vehicle with a manufacturer's rated chassis capacity in excess of one ton, plus any tractor, semitrailer, trailer, bus, or recreational vehicle. None of these may stand or park within the public right-of-way on a street in or adjacent to a residential zoning district. The only exception is active loading or unloading, and even that use is capped at 48 hours in the right-of-way; the vehicle must leave once loading or unloading is complete.

The section also independently prohibits parking such a vehicle in any manner that blocks street access for public safety vehicles, regardless of the 48-hour allowance. Because the rule lives in Chapter 62, Article III alongside the town's other stopping-and-parking sections, it is enforced the same way: an officer may cite the registered owner under the presumption in § 62-66, and a vehicle parked in violation may be relocated at the owner's expense under § 62-67(b). The restriction applies specifically to the public right-of-way in or adjacent to residential zoning districts, it does not reach a homeowner's own driveway or private property, which is instead governed by the town's zoning and land development standards.
