Troup County, GA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

UDO Appendix B § 8.10, 'Additional parking provisions,' regulates where heavy commercial vehicles can sit on residential property in unincorporated Troup County. Subsection (2) governs the county's more rural residential zones, AG-R, SU-R, LR and SD-MH: a commercial vehicle licensed by the State with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 11,000 pounds is not allowed on the property at all unless it can be completely enclosed, for example inside a garage or barn. The same subsection bars major auto repair work such as engine, transmission or heavy body jobs unless done inside an enclosed accessory building or on a part of the property screened from any public road, and it limits storing an inoperable vehicle in the open to 30 days unless it is fully screened from the road and surrounding properties.

Subsection (3) tightens the rule for the county's suburban-scale SU-VL and UR-VL districts: parking a commercial vehicle over 11,000 pounds GVW is prohibited outright, with no enclosure exception, major auto repair is confined entirely to enclosed buildings, and outdoor storage of inoperable vehicles is banned rather than time-limited. Both subsections sit alongside subsection (1)'s countywide rules banning overnight on-street parking of commercial vehicles and requiring recreational vehicles, trailers and boats to stay in side and rear yards, so a lot in one of these six zoning categories faces layered restrictions on where heavy equipment and inoperable vehicles can be kept.
