Troup County, GA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Troup County's Unified Development Ordinance devotes Article IX of Appendix B to off-street loading, and Section 9.1 sets the operating hours that apply once a loading area sits within 150 feet of a district that allows residential uses: Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with no window authorized for Sunday loading near those districts. The same section requires every off-street loading space to be surfaced in asphalt or concrete, and any loading structure or bay must be screened or sited so it cannot be seen from a public right-of-way.

Dimensionally, a required loading space must measure at least 12 feet wide by 35 feet deep and keep 14 feet of overhead clearance, with access from an alley where one exists or otherwise from a road or street. Non-residential development triggers a sliding scale of required spaces tied to gross floor area, starting at one space up to 49,000 square feet and rising through the building's size. Loading activity may never block the free movement of vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians over a road, sidewalk, alley or parking lot circulation aisle.

Inside the County's commercial and industrial corridor overlay, loading is barred entirely from any front or side yard fronting the highway right-of-way, buildings must orient service entrances and loading areas to the rear, and any loading area still visible from the primary road must be screened. The Community Development Department administers these standards through site plan and building permit review.
