Troup County, GA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

UDO Appendix B § 8.10(1)c, adopted by Ordinance No. 2025-03 as part of the parking article's countywide baseline requirements, addresses where recreational equipment can sit on a residential lot in unincorporated Troup County. The text lists six categories together: recreational vehicles, campers, buses, trailers, boats, boat trailers, and single tractor trailers, and requires all of them to be parked in side and rear yards. That means the front yard, the area between the house and the road, is off-limits for storing this equipment, regardless of zoning district, because item (1) states its requirements apply to all uses.

The rule works alongside the neighboring provisions in the same subsection: item (a) bans overnight street parking of commercial vehicles, buses and RVs, and item (b) requires driveways to let a vehicle turn and exit facing traffic rather than backing out blind. Property owners in the more rural AG-R, SU-R, LR and SD-MH districts, and in the suburban SU-VL and UR-VL districts, layer this side/rear-yard placement rule on top of the weight-based commercial vehicle restrictions in subsections (2) and (3), so a boat or camper trailer that also happens to be a heavy commercial vehicle can trigger both standards at once.

Community Development treats the requirement as part of routine code enforcement complaint review rather than site plan review, since it governs an existing use rather than new construction, and a homeowner in any of the county's zoning districts is equally subject to it.
