Jackson, NJ Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Section 244-194G(1) requires every structure to be reached by a driveway at least 10 feet wide with a center-line grade of not less than 0.5% and not greater than 10%. Non-single-family uses must provide on-site turnarounds so vehicles never back onto a street, and their driveways must meet the nonresidential construction standard in § 244-197. Single-family driveways may be built of 1.5 inches of bituminous concrete Type FABC over a six-inch crushed-stone base, or a minimum four-inch Class B air-entrained concrete slab reinforced with six-by-six welded wire fabric, under § 244-194G(4)(a)-(b).

Driveways must be at least 12 feet wide for one car and 16 feet wide for two cars along their length and at the sidewalk or property line, widening to 14 feet or 18 feet and tapering back down at the edge of pavement or curbline, and driveways fronting other than minor streets must be T-shaped or an engineer-approved equivalent letting vehicles turn around. Section 244-194G(4)(f) allows an exception: where the proposed front yard setback exceeds the zone's required minimum by at least 20 feet, six inches of compacted stone may substitute for a paved surface, but except on unimproved roadways the driveway must still be finished at the street with a concrete apron or sidewalk meeting § 244-203 so loose stone does not spill onto the roadway.
