In Sunrise's RS-3, RS-5, and RS-7 residential districts, vehicles must park in a designated parking space: an asphalt, concrete, or paver driveway, a carport, or a garage (Code Sec. 14-16). Parking on lawns or unpaved yard is prohibited.
City Code Sec. 14-15 defines a designated parking space as a driveway of asphalt, concrete, or brick pavers built per survey or permit, a carport, or a garage. Sec. 14-16(d) requires vehicles on single-family (RS-3, RS-5, RS-7) property to park only in those designated spaces, not on grass, dirt, or landscaped areas. Parking in the swale between the road and the property line is allowed only with the owner's permission, parked parallel to and completely off the pavement (Sec. 14-16(b)); business trucks and RVs have separate rules. Widening or adding a driveway requires a city permit and must match the original survey or an approved plan. Illegal swale parking and parking outside a designated space are each ticketable.
Parking not within a designated space is $25 and illegal swale parking is $25 under the Sec. 14-69 schedule; parking on vacant land is $75. Article II violations can escalate to $500 per day under Sec. 14-49.
