Roanoke, VA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Roanoke treats loading zones as a distinct, narrower parking category rather than open curb space. Sec. 20-65(a)(8) makes it unlawful to park within a designated loading zone at all, except for the immediate and continuous loading or unloading of passengers or materials, and only within whatever time period is posted for that zone. Sec. 20-67(f) carves out a narrower allowance: the operator of a passenger vehicle may stop temporarily in a marked loading zone, but not one specifically posted "truck loading zone," to load or unload passengers or bundles, provided the stop doesn't interfere with a materials-transport vehicle that is waiting to enter or about to enter that same space.

Read together, these sections give commercial delivery and materials vehicles priority use of loading zones over ordinary passenger-car stops, and bar any vehicle, commercial or private, from treating a loading zone as ordinary parking once its posted time limit or loading-and-unloading purpose is exceeded. The same chapter's general vehicle-standing rules apply on top of this: no backing a vehicle up to the curb except while actively loading, under Sec. 20-67(c), and no vehicle may occupy more than one marked space, under Sec. 20-67(i).
