Sec. 2-425 governs parking and storage of recreational vehicles, motor homes, boats, campers, and trailers in Roanoke's residential districts and in the CN and MX districts. Subsection (a) permits a motor home, boat, truck camper, inhabitable bus, recreational vehicle, travel trailer, boat trailer, or other trailer to be parked or stored on a lot, but never inhabited for more than 24 hours, provided three conditions are all met: the vehicle or equipment carries a current-year license, it sits no closer to the street than the principal building on the lot (meaning it cannot be parked in front of the house), and it does not exceed 32 feet in length or 9 feet in height.

A vehicle that fails any one of those three tests, oversized, unlicensed, or parked forward of the house, is not permitted to sit on the lot at all under this section. Subsection (b) covers the public right-of-way instead of private lots: with a narrow exception for commercial haulage trailers, no such vehicle may be parked, stored, or left standing on any street or alley in a residential, CN, or MX district, except that motor homes, recreational vehicles, and travel trailers specifically may be left standing there for up to but not exceeding 10 calendar days within any three-month period, a short-term allowance meant for loading, cleaning, or trip preparation rather than ongoing storage.
