New Haven, CT Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Sec. 29-35(l) of the traffic code lists leaving a vehicle "in any space for more than seventy-two (72) consecutive hours" as a prohibited way to park on a New Haven street, alongside blocking intersections, hydrants, crosswalks, and driveways. The 72-hour cap is how the city polices long-term and overnight on-street parking outside metered zones -- there's no city-wide overnight curfew, but a car left in one spot for three straight days is in violation. The rule doesn't apply to spaces posted as part of a residential parking zone created under section 29-55, where a permit governs instead.
