Littleton, CO Parking Rules: Preferential Parking Districts (2026)

Under Section 9-1-11(A), the city manager or a designee studies whether to create a neighborhood permit parking zone either on receipt of a petition signed by at least 50% of the area's property owners, or on the manager's own initiative if it is in the public interest. Factors considered include how full parking spaces run during working hours, how many parked vehicles are registered to nonresidents, and the impact of nearby businesses, and restrictions may never apply on Sundays or holidays. Subsection (B) requires a written proposal covering boundaries, restricted hours and days, and any nonresident permit terms; subsection (C) has the city install signage and issue permits once a zone is established.

Under subsection (F), residents in the zone must obtain a permit before parking there during restricted hours, applying to the city manager with proof of residency (a Colorado driver's license, a prior year's property tax statement, or a valid lease) plus a current Colorado vehicle registration matching that address. Each eligible resident also receives two dashboard-displayed guest permits valid for the same term, and licensed contractors doing permitted work in the zone can get temporary permits at no cost. Permits run two years and expire early if the holder moves out of the zone or no longer owns or leases the registered vehicle; a misused permit may be suspended or revoked, barring reissuance for a year.

Existing zones as of adoption run five years before the city manager reevaluates them, and any permit fees are set by council resolution based on the program's administrative cost.
