Stonecrest, GA Parking Rules: Preferential Parking Districts (2026)

Stonecrest Code § 17-154 creates a residential permit parking program under which a motor vehicle bearing a special permit issued under the division may park in excess of the time limits posted on streets within a designated residential permit parking area. Getting an area designated starts with a petition: § 17-156 requires signatures from at least 65 percent of the residences on the block, one signature per street address, submitted to the director of the public works transportation division along with a clearly defined boundary and a named petition coordinator.

The director then evaluates eligibility under § 17-157, which requires the proposed area to contain no less than 50 single-family street addresses or no less than 4,000 linear feet of street frontage measured from the center of adjacent intersections. Once an area is approved, § 17-159 sets the permit terms: a full-term resident permit is valid for one year and costs $12.00, all permits within one area share a common expiration date, and § 17-160 allows up to three free visitor permits per resident with additional visitor permits available at $15.00 each, capped at seven visitor permits total in any 12-month period.

Section 17-161 requires the resident decal to be permanently affixed to the inside lower corner of the rear window on the driver's side. Because eligibility and boundaries are set by petition rather than by an outright City Council designation, a Stonecrest permit area functions as the resident-driven equivalent of what other cities call a preferential parking district.
