Lynwood, CA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Lynwood Municipal Code § 25-20-9, "Recreational Vehicle Storage," permits open storage of boats, travel trailers, and other recreational vehicles on residential lots, cross-referencing the parking-location standards of subsection 25-65-5A, which requires such vehicles to sit on the same lot as the residence they serve, bars parking on unpaved surfaces, and requires at least 4 feet of clearance from any exterior wall containing windows when parked in a side or rear yard. Portable, semipermanent, or permanent covers protecting a stored boat, trailer, or RV from weather are allowed only if the structure sits entirely behind the front setback line, keeps the building-code-required distance from any inhabited structure, is used on a vehicle parked consistent with § 25-65-5A, and is kept in good repair; no more than one such cover is allowed per 5,000 square feet of lot area.

Separately, Lynwood Municipal Code § 7-20.22 flatly prohibits parking any trailer, including truck trailers, mobile homes, and boat trailers, on any city street when it is unattached to a tractor or automobile, closing off the public right-of-way as a storage option regardless of the residential-lot rules. Together the two sections steer RV, boat, and trailer storage onto the owner's own driveway or side/rear yard, behind the front setback, while keeping the street and public right-of-way clear of detached trailers city-wide.
