North Hempstead, NY Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Chapter 28's maintenance standards, found in Article III, apply to lots and buildings in North Hempstead outside its incorporated villages. Section 28-22A(8) states flatly that no one may park a motor vehicle or boat in any front yard area except on driveways built and installed in compliance with the Town Code, meaning a boat trailer or RV cannot simply sit on the lawn or an unpaved strip of the front yard even if it fits. Section 28-8E extends the restriction to actual occupancy: no motor vehicle, boat, motor home, camping trailer, pickup camper, recreational vehicle, or similar item may be used as habitable space anywhere in the Town unless parked in an area specifically approved by the Town for that use, or in a location the Building Department Commissioner has approved for temporary or emergency housing.

These are enforced together with the rest of the Article III maintenance standards; the Enforcement Officer issues a written notice of violation under § 28-35 giving 5 to 45 days to cure a violation such as an illegally parked recreational vehicle before the Town can act to remove the condition and bill the owner for the cost, which becomes a lien on the property if unpaid.
