Recreational vehicles, trailers, and boats may not be parked on any public street or alley for more than 72 consecutive hours (Provo City Code 9.31.055), and in residential zones they cannot be stored in a front or street-side yard except on a driveway set back 12.5 feet from the sidewalk (Code 14.34.060).
Under Provo City Code Section 9.31.055 (Using Streets for Parking of Recreational Vehicles, Trailers, and Boats), it is unlawful to park a recreational vehicle, trailer, boat, or similar conveyance, whether attached or unattached to a motor vehicle, on any public street or alley for more than seventy-two (72) consecutive hours; a unit moved and reparked on the same block face within 72 hours is deemed to have been continuously parked. For residential storage, Provo City Code Section 14.34.060 (Boats, Recreational Vehicles, and Trailers) provides that in any residential (R) zone such units may be parked on a side yard (not a street side yard) or rear yard, and may not be kept in a front or street side yard unless parked on a driveway or paved parking area, set back at least twelve and one-half (12-1/2) feet from the inside edge of the sidewalk (or property line where no sidewalk exists) for any portion over three (3) feet in height, and without encroaching into the public right-of-way. Units may not be placed within the clear-vision area of a corner lot (Section 14.34.100).
Street violations beyond 72 hours are enforced as civil parking infractions under Chapter 9.17 and may result in citation and towing. Zoning violations under 14.34.060 are handled by Code Compliance (Development Services), 801-852-6427.
