Under Sonoma County Code Section 18-3.10, no oversized vehicle or trailer (including RVs, boats, and travel trailers parked separately) may be stopped, parked, or left standing on any county highway or right-of-way for more than six consecutive hours, after which it must relocate for at least 72 hours.
Sonoma County Code Chapter 18, Article III, Section 18-3.10 (Parking of Oversized Vehicles and Trailers) prohibits any person from stopping, parking, or leaving standing any oversized vehicle or trailer on any county highway or county right-of-way for a period longer than six consecutive hours. After the six-hour limit, the vehicle must relocate for a period of at least 72 hours before returning. This ordinance was added by the Board of Supervisors under the authority of California Vehicle Code Sections 22507 and 22507.5. Oversized vehicles typically include RVs, motorhomes, boats and trailers on trailers, fifth-wheels, and travel trailers being parked on a public road. The Code does not extend a county-wide screening or setback rule to RVs and boats stored on private property (unlike many incorporated Sonoma County cities such as Santa Rosa), so private-property storage is generally governed by zoning setbacks and any applicable HOA rules.
Oversized vehicles or trailers parked on county roads in violation of the six-hour limit are subject to citation and removal under California Vehicle Code Section 22651. Towing and storage fees plus citation fines apply to the owner.
