Sonoma County treats commercial trucks and trailers as oversized vehicles subject to Sec. 18-3.10's six-hour limit on county roads. There is no county-wide overnight residential-area ban beyond that limit, but state law authorizes signed posted restrictions.
Sonoma County Code Chapter 18, Article III, Section 18-3.10 prohibits stopping, parking, or leaving standing any oversized vehicle or trailer (a category that typically includes semi-trucks, trailers, large commercial box trucks, and similar) on any county highway or right-of-way for more than six consecutive hours, after which the vehicle must relocate for at least 72 hours. This ordinance is enacted under the authority of California Vehicle Code Sections 22507 and 22507.5, which allow local agencies to restrict commercial-vehicle parking in residential districts via signed ordinance. Standard-size commercial vehicles (work trucks, vans, small delivery vehicles) fall under the general 72-hour limit. Signed local restrictions may be posted on a street-by-street basis. The unincorporated county does not extend storage or screening rules to commercial vehicles stored on private property at the county level.
Commercial or oversized vehicles parked in violation of the 6-hour limit on county roads are subject to citation and tow under CA Vehicle Code Sec. 22651. Standard-sized commercial vehicles parked over 72 hours are subject to the same enforcement.
