Sanford, FL Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Sec. 58-49, adopted by Ordinance No. 4584 on January 25, 2021, prohibits parking or leaving standing a recreational or utility vehicle, defined by reference to F.S. § 513.01(10) to include camping trailers, motor homes, slide-in campers, temporary recreational vehicles, oversized vehicles and unattached trailers, on any public street, public or dedicated alley, or other public property in an area zoned or designated for residential use. Sec. 58-52 defines 'residentially zoned or designated areas' to include the SR-1AA, SR-1A, SR-1, SR-2, MR-1, MR-2, MR-3 and RMOI zoning districts, as well as residential portions of a PD district and any street located within those areas.

The same section defines 'oversized vehicle' as any vehicle, trailer, or combination exceeding 22 feet in length or 84 inches in width, including attachments or protruding objects, which sweeps in most travel trailers and boats on trailers parked on residential streets. The only exception in Sec. 58-49 lets an owner or lessee park such a vehicle immediately in front of, and on the same side of the street as, their own residence for up to 24 hours within any 15-day period, solely to load, unload or otherwise prepare the vehicle for a trip or to unpack after returning from one.

Beyond that narrow window, the vehicle must be moved off the public right-of-way, typically into a driveway or onto the property. Sanford's Planning and Development Services and code enforcement staff, along with city enforcement officers under Sec. 58-48, are positioned to act on the general parking-violation framework since Article II does not set a distinct fine for Sec. 58-49.
