Sanford, FL Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Sanford's parking rules sit in Chapter 58, Article II, entirely rewritten by Ordinance No. 4584 on January 25, 2021. Sec. 58-41 authorizes the city manager, working with the city attorney, to adopt rules prohibiting or limiting parking on streets or other public property, whether applied to all vehicles at all times or only to particular vehicle types or hours, and requires signs or markers giving notice before any prohibition is enforceable. Sec. 58-53 governs how a vehicle must sit once parked: parallel to the roadway edge, headed in the direction of travel, with curbside wheels within 12 inches of the curb, except where signs or markings establish angle parking.

Parking any other way, including facing against traffic, is unlawful. Sec. 58-48 separately authorizes city enforcement officers to remove any vehicle left unattended in front of a public or private driveway, within an intersection or crosswalk, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant or in a fire lane, or in violation of posted no-parking signs where the vehicle obstructs traffic. Sec. 58-50 sets a uniform civil fine schedule: a $40.00 base fine applies to blocking a driveway, parking over the line, improper parking, parking where prohibited and most other listed violations, rising to $50.00 for parking in a fire safety zone or near a hydrant and $250.00 for parking in a disabled space without a permit.

An unpaid fine grows by $10.00 after 30 days, and a person may instead request a hearing before the county's civil traffic infraction hearing officer, who can impose up to three times the base fine plus hearing costs.
