Commerce City, CO Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Two sections added to Commerce City's adopted Model Traffic Code by Ord. No. 2553, December 4, 2023, govern everyday on-street parking. Section 1214, codified at Revised Municipal Code § 11-1202(l), bars parking a vehicle on a public roadway for the principal purpose of greasing, painting, or repairing it, except for emergency repairs, or for displaying advertising, and it separately prohibits semitrailers from being parked within the public right-of-way to exchange trailers, or from sitting on the right-of-way unless connected to a semi-tractor; a narrow exception lets semitrailers be stored on the unpaved stretch of Elm Street between 69th and 72nd Avenues.

Section 1215, codified at § 11-1202(m), governs residential districts specifically: a vehicle may be parked only on a driveway, another approved parking area, or on the portion of a street where parking is permitted, not on lawns, unpaved shoulders, or other surfaces. Neither section spells out a separate rule for blocking a driveway or parking against traffic, since those scenarios are handled by the underlying Model Traffic Code provisions Commerce City adopted by reference rather than reprinting. Commerce City Police Department issues citations for violations of either section, and because neither carries its own fine, the Municipal Court applies the Code's general penalty at § 1-5, up to a $300 fine, up to 90 days in jail, or both.

As with the five-hour rule in the same section, Section 1215 expressly preserves the ability of homeowners associations to separately enforce their own parking covenants.
