Gaithersburg, MD Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Residential Permit Parking Zones and Commercial Parking Sectors have been established in select areas of the City per City Code, Section 14. Residents and businesses must obtain annual parking permits to park in permit-restricted areas for extended periods of time. Permits can be applied for and maintained through the City's Parking Permits and Tickets Portal. Effective July 1, 2025, the City of Gaithersburg will implement a new Residential Permit Parking (RPP) program and changes to the Olde Towne Commercial Parking Pass program. The new changes will improve parking availability, accessibility, and overall traffic management. All existing residential permit parking zones will remain in place under the new RPP program, with no changes to the limits or hours of enforcement. A new parking permit is required by July 1, including for those who currently have a valid parking permit. [...] Residents of properties in designated residential permit parking zones are eligible for up to two permits. Residents can use the Gaithersburg Address Search tool to check if their address falls within a residential parking zone. Commercial vehicles are not eligible for residential parking permits. The definition of a commercial vehicle is provided in Gaithersburg City Code 14-10. For businesses in Olde Towne whose locations lack on-site parking, up to two vehicles per business are eligible for commercial parking passes. [...] Parking restrictions vary by street. [...] Permits cost $25 per vehicle and are valid for one year from the date of issuance. [...] All streets with permit parking restrictions allow for permit-less two-hour temporary parking for visitors without obtaining a visitor parking permit. For visitors staying longer than two hours, holders of residential parking permits can obtain visitor parking permits that are valid for up to three days. Each vehicle that visits may obtain up to thirty of these three-day visitor parking permits annually.
