Gaithersburg Chapter 14 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic) defines commercial vehicles and restricts their parking in residential zones. Commercial vehicles as defined in Section 14-10 are not eligible for residential parking permits under the city Residential Permit Parking program. Montgomery County regulations effective July 1, 2025, further limit parking of commercial vehicles, RVs, and buses on residential streets. Large commercial vehicles (those exceeding specified weight or size thresholds) may not be parked overnight on residential streets. Smaller commercial vehicles such as work vans and pickup trucks with commercial markings may park in driveways subject to normal residential parking rules. Business owners operating from home should confirm vehicle storage complies with both zoning (Chapter 24) and traffic regulations.
