Westfield, IN Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 58-211(a) sets the citywide clearance rule: no person may park or cause a vehicle to be parked on a city street, other than an alley, in a manner that leaves less than 18 feet of roadway width open for the free movement of traffic. Subsection (b) extends the same protection to publicly owned sidewalks, prohibiting any parked vehicle that restricts or inhibits pedestrian access. Section 58-212 applies the identical 18-foot standard to alleys and separately bars blocking a driveway entrance from an alley. Section 58-214 lists nine specific places where stopping, standing or parking is prohibited unless the driver is avoiding a traffic conflict or following a police officer's direction: on a sidewalk; in front of or opposite a public or private driveway; within an intersection; within 15 feet of a fire hydrant; on a crosswalk; within 20 feet of an intersection or crosswalk; within 30 feet of a flashing beacon, stop sign or traffic signal; within 20 feet of a fire station driveway, or 75 feet on the opposite side when posted; and on the roadway side of another parked vehicle.

The Westfield Police Department enforces these rules citywide, and section 58-215 lets the chief of police impose temporary parking prohibitions for special events by posted signs, with towing at the vehicle owner's expense. Section 58-245 requires that no parking prohibition takes effect until an official sign or traffic control device is actually erected.
