Davie charges a $500 full-year registration fee (including two inspections), $300 half-year, and reduced renewal fees. Operators must also collect Florida sales tax and Broward County's 6% Tourist Development Tax under Fla. Stat. Sec. 125.0104. Fees are non-refundable.
Sec. 16-154 authorizes Davie to charge reasonable registration fees, set by town council resolution, to cover administrative expenses; fees are non-refundable. The town's published FY 2024-2025 fee schedule lists: full-year registration (Oct 1–Sep 30, includes two initial safety inspections) $500; half-year (Apr 1–Sep 30) $300; non-owner-occupied renewal $450; owner-occupied renewal $400; each inspection, re-inspection, or missed inspection $100; late registration/renewal $75; and rental-agent transfer $50. Separate from town fees, the operator is responsible for state and county lodging taxes. Florida levies 6% state sales tax plus Broward County's discretionary surtax on transient rentals, and Broward County imposes a 6% Tourist Development Tax under Fla. Stat. Sec. 125.0104 on accommodations rented for six months or less. Davie's application requires proof of registration with the Florida Department of Revenue and a Broward County Tourist Development Tax account (Sec. 16-153(a)(7)). These taxes are state- and county-controlled, not set by the town. The town's fees are administrative registration charges permitted under the Sec. 509.032(7) framework, which lets local governments require and reasonably fund a registration program.
Failing to register/pay town fees, or failing to register for and remit Tourist Development and sales taxes, can result in a notice of violation and up to $500 per violation under Sec. 16-160, plus state/county tax enforcement.
