Eagle Mountain, UT Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

EMMC 17.80.120(C) lists political signs among the categories exempt from the standard sign permit process, but exemption from a permit does not mean no rules apply. On private property, a political sign cannot exceed eight feet in height, measured from the average natural grade to the sign's topmost point, or 32 square feet of copy per side, with no more than two sides permitted, so long as the sign otherwise complies with the chapter.

City-owned or leased property, including rights-of-way and median strips, is off-limits to political signs, with named exceptions: two specific parcels along N. Eagle Mountain Boulevard/E. Aviator Avenue and along Pony Express Parkway, plus park strips where the adjacent property owner or occupant, or someone with that person's consent, posts the sign. Where political signs are allowed on city property, they follow tighter limits: the same eight-foot, 32-square-foot standard applies generally, but signs in park strips cannot exceed three square feet per side, and only one sign per candidate is allowed per location. Signs cannot go up on city property before candidate filing opens, and city property signs must come down within 14 days after primary election canvassing for candidates no longer in the race, and within 14 days after the general election for everyone else.

Signs that violate these city-property rules, or that create a traffic, pedestrian or sight-line hazard, may be removed by city staff. Removed signs are held by the neighborhood improvement division, which tries to contact the owner; once notified, the owner has five business days to reclaim the sign before the city disposes of it.
